St. Maarten News – Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Silveria Jacobs was on hand at the airport with many supporters to welcome the local Moot Court Competition team that returned from the Netherlands on Saturday night with a third place finish out of 16 teams from around the world.  

The St. Maarten team consisted of students: Tatia Brunings, Manaar Mohammed, Hilda Soares and Hailey Greaux of St. Dominic High, Ariel Vlaun of Caribbean International Academy (CIA), Candace Ford of the St. Maarten Academy, and Harsha Parchani of Learning Unlimited (LU). The four coaches were: Bastiaan Pilon, Willem Nelissen, Fehmi Kutluer and Erica Cannon.

The Minister, Chairlady of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams, parents, siblings and other family members, teachers, mentors and coaches of law firm Lexwell & Associates all gave the young aspiring lawyers a rousing round of applause with shouts of excitement upon their entrance at the arrival hall. 

Though quite exhausted from their long trip the girls were quite happy to be home and receive such a warm welcome.  They received tokens of love and appreciation for their great achievements in the form of flowers, balloons and gifts from their parents, school manager Giane Wilson and the Minister of Education. 

Minister Jacobs invited the team and coaches for a press conference at the Legislative Hall to share their experiences.  

“This is an excellent example of youth positively engaged in meaningful activities which builds their esteem, confidence and gives them the drive to continue to strive to achieve their dreams,” Minister Jacobs said. She commended the Lexwell team for taking the initiative and putting in the hours to train the youngsters and the schools, teachers and parents for their support.
